Vol. 127 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Home-Grown Sawn Timber Prices.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the recent increase of 100 per cent. in the price of home-grown sawn timber at the State sawmills has inflicted severe hardship on many farmers and others to whom the mills are the only means of securing timber for new dwelling houses and outoffices; and, if so, if he will consider reducing the price of such timber somewhat.

I am not aware of the severe hardship which the Deputy alleges to exist. The prices charged by State sawmills must be related to prevailing prices in privately-owned sawmills. The price question is being kept under review and any adjustments found necessary will be made.
