Vol. 127 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sub-Post Office in Ballyshannon.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, in view of the extension of the town of Ballyshannon, he will arrange for the establishment of a sub-post office on the south side of the River Erne.

The existing sub-post office in Ballyshannon is centrally situated and adequately meets the requirements of the town. The establishment of a second office would not be warranted.

In view of the considerable expansion of the town of Ballyshannon and in view of the contour of the town, will the Minister not reconsider his decision and arrange for a sub-post office on the southern bank of the Erne?

According to the general practice of the post office, in a town of the size of Ballyshannon, there is usually only one office, particularly when that office is a sub-office, and most of the important premises in the town are not more than three furlongs from the existing post office, even though they are on the south side; but we are installing a stamp-vending machine on the south side as a partial contribution.

It will be very useful indeed.
