Vol. 128 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that a canvass of the Bonniconlon, Attymass, Foxford and Killasser areas of North Mayo has been carried out with a view to having the Electricity Supply Board current extended to these Gaeltacht areas; and, if so, if he will state when this work is likely to commence.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that canvasses of the Bonniconlon, Attymass, Knockmore and Killasser areas, County Mayo, have been carried out under the rural electrification scheme. These areas will be considered for development in the summer of next year, but it is not possible at this stage to say whether they are likely to be successful.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the completion of the necessary canvass and of the very satisfactory response, he will now state when the Electricity Supply Board will extend the rural electrification scheme to the Derryvale area of Roscrea, County Tipperary.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that a canvass of the householders in Derryvale area has been carried out under the rural electrification scheme. The area will be considered for development at an early date, but it is not possible to say at this stage whether the area will be selected.
