Vol. 129 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - The Abbey Theatre.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether proposals in connection with the rebuilding of the Abbey Theatre are under consideration; and, if so, the nature of the proposals and the present position in the matter.

Proposals for the rebuilding of the Abbey Theatre on the existing site are under consideration. The matter is, however, at the exploratory stage and no final decisions have been reached.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in connection with the grants paid to the National Theatre Society under Vote 23, he will state whether there is attached thereto any requirements as to the qualifications and suitability that the directors of the Abbey Theatre must possess.

No conditions are attached to the grants payable to the National Theatre Society out of the Vote for Miscellaneous Expenses.

I take it that a sense of humour is not a required qualification?

The Deputy would not expect me to judge that, would he?
