Vol. 131 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wool Prices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the Wool Committee of the International Materials Conference, sitting in Washington, has issued a recommendation to its members, the effect of which is to prevent, as far as possible, an upward swing in quotations for wool; and, if so, whether he will advise any of the aforesaid members of his attitude thereto and if he will state what his attitude is likely to be.

This country is not a member of the Wool Committee of the International Materials Conference and I am not aware of the issue by the committee of any recommendation in the terms suggested by the Deputy. The second part of the question, therefore, does not arise.

Would the Minister, in the light of the question, make the appropriate inquiries with a view to discovering whether or not these recommendations have been issued to the members of the particular committee?

The matter is being kept under review.
