Vol. 131 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prosecutions for Driving Offences.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state how many women drivers of motor cars were prosecuted for offences in each of the past two years and also the number of men drivers prosecuted during the same period; and, further, if he will state the number of driving licences issued to (1) women and (2) men for each year.

Mr. Boland

Statistics are not compiled in a form which would enable the information asked for to be supplied.

Surely the Minister could obtain the information if he wanted to?

Mr. Boland

With a great lot of difficulty, it could be done, but the figures are not compiled in that form.

Surely the Minister could supply the answer?

In view of the allegation made here by some Deputies, I think it is absolutely necessary that some statistics be made available to show that women are really not a menace to the public safety.
