Vol. 134 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Birth and Death Statistics (Beara Peninsula).

asked the Minister for Health if he will indicate the number of births in the Beara Peninsula during the years (a) 1918-20, (b) 1925-30, and (c) 1948-52, and if he will further indicate the number of deaths during the same periods.

As the reply to this question takes the form of a statistical statement I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate the statement with the Official Report.

Following is the reply:—

The Beara Peninsula is not a separate area for the purpose of the registration of births, deaths and marriages. It contains the registrars' (or dispensary) districts of Castletownbere, Kilcatherine and Glengarriff in County Cork and Tuosist in County Kerry.

The following are the figures for births and deaths registered in respect of (a) these four districts and (b) the two first-named districts, which are in the south-western portion of the peninsula and comprise the former Poor Law Union of Castletownbere:—
