Vol. 134 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Dispensaries.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the present position with regard to the erection of a new dispensary in New Ross.

The Wexford County Council have decided to provide a new dispensary in New Ross, but firm proposals for the implementation of this decision have not yet been submitted to me. As an immediate measure, however, in view of the very unsatisfactory condition of the existing dispensary, the local authority have rented a premises at Mary Street, New Ross, for five years; the repair and reconstruction of this building, which is necessary before it can be used as a dispensary, is at present being carried out. This work will be completed in the very near future, and dispensary sessions will then be started in the Mary Street premises.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the unsatisfactory state of the dispensary at Foulksmills, County Wexford, due to leakage from the enormous hole in the roof, a state of affairs which has obtained for a considerable time; and, if so, if he will state what steps he proposes to take in the matter.

I am aware of the very unsatisfactory condition of this dispensary and, as the Deputy already knows, I have been urging the local authority to provide new premises.

I am informed that tenders are now being invited for the erection of a new building.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, could he not impress upon the local council the desirability of effecting some temporary repairs in the existing dispensary in Foulksmills, as, perhaps, he is aware as I am, that practically the whole side of the roof has gone out of the dispensary and there is absolutely no protection from the weather there.

I saw the building myself.

The county manager is not doing his job. We are doing it in the county council.(Interruptions.)

Between you all, will you repair the roof?
