Vol. 134 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seizures by British Customs Authorities.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he is aware that a number of Irish migrants proceeding to Great Britain have had their personal belongings confiscated and fines imposed on them by British customs authorities at the Derry/Donegal land frontier posts; and, if so, whether he will take appropriate steps to have this personal property and fines returned to the migrants.

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is in the negative.

As regards the second part of the question, if the Deputy will supply me with the full details of any such cases of which he is aware, I shall have inquiries made into them so as to ascertain whether the circumstances are such as to warrant my making representations to the British authorities.
