asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (a) the names of civil servants holding directorships in State or semi-State undertakings, (b) the amount of remuneration or allowances applicable to such posts, and (c) the names of civil servants holding directorships or official positions in private or commercial undertakings in the Republic of Ireland.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Servants' Directorships.
The answers to (a) and (b) are in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, will be circulated with the Official Report.
As regards (c), there are well defined rules designed to ensure that civil servants are not permitted to engage in any outside occupation which wouldconflict with the interests of their Departments or be inconsistent with their official duties. I have no reason to believe that these rules are not being complied with. I would regard the giving of the information sought asan unjustifiable intrusion on the private affairs of civil servants.

† Remuneration is for acting as Director. Also acts as Joint Managing Director for which remuneration is determined by the Board of the Company.
May we take it therefore that when the Secretary of the Department of Finance lays down the policy of the Central Bank he is acting with the approval of the Government?
No.
That is a separate question altogether.
It is only a Deputy with the peculiar logical apparatus that Deputy MacBride possesses who would put that supplementary question.
