Vol. 136 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of New Zealand Butter.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will indicate the quantity of New Zealand butter imported in 1951 and 1952, and the amount to be imported in 1953, and the prices paid or to be paid.

Mr. Walsh

Imports of butter from New Zealand amounted to 49,993 cwt. in 1951 and 109,998 cwt. in 1952. The price paid for this butter was 376/- per cwt. c.i.f. Dublin. Arrangements have been made for the importation of 80,000 cwt. of butter from New Zealand in the early months of 1953 at an average price of 379/10½ per cwt. c.i.f. Dublin. It is not possible to say at this stage whether further imports will be necessary this year.
