Vol. 138 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Meath Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that a local and an official survey have been made of the Carnaross area, County Meath, with the intention of installing a rural electrification scheme in that area, and that no scheme has yet been established although 75 per cent. of the residents signed the petition for a scheme; and, if so, if he will state when work on the scheme will commence.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that, while the results of the canvass in the Carnaross area showed that a reasonably high percentage of householders was willing to accept supply, the area was not selected as its financial return did not compare favourably with that of other areas still awaiting development in the board's Dundalk district. The area will be considered for selection again in the future, but I am unable to state when development is likely to commence.
