Vol. 142 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Post Office Publicity Campaign.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the amount of advertising charges and other expenses incurred in the campaign to encourage investment in Post Office Savings Bank and Savings Certificates during the 12 months preceding the latest available date in 1953.

The amount of advertising charges and other expenses incurred in the campaign to encourage saving through the Post Office Savings Bank and Savings Certificates during the 12 months ended 31st October, 1953, was £14,191 15s. 9d.

Having regard to the considerable expense and effort involved in the campaign, would the Minister not comment on it or does he feel that such remarks would not stand publication?

The Department of Posts and Telegraphs acts as an agent for the Minister for Finance in these matters and it is not for me to comment as the Deputy suggests.
