Vol. 142 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Freight Rates on Motor Vehicles.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the present freight rates and other dues charged on motor vehicles on the routes between Great Britain and this country militate against an extension and development of our tourist trade in that many intending motoring visitors to Ireland have cancelled their arrangements because of the high charges in operation for some time past; and, if so, if he will make appropriate representations to have the existing rates brought into line with charges operating on continental routes.

The question of cross-Channel freight rates on private cars has been the subject of discussions with the companies concerned which, I understand, are giving it consideration.
