Vol. 142 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - American Medical Association Report.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state whether the Government have been furnished with the report of the American Medical Association following an investigation of Irish medical schools by representatives of that association; and, if so, if he will make a statement in the matter.

I have seen a copy of a confidential preliminary report furnished by the representatives of the American Medical Association following their investigation of Irish medical schools, but no copy of the detailed report, which, I understand, was made by the delegation, dealing with the various medical schools visited has been furnished to the Government or to me. I am, therefore, not in a position to make any statement on the matter.

Would the Minister not consider a matter like this sufficientlyimportant for him to receive a copy of the detailed report?

The medical schools do not think so.

Does the Minister himself not think the matter is of sufficient importance?

I would not like to express an opinion.
