asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the reason why the drainage work is not being carried out at Ballyhassion, Walsh Island, Geashill, Offaly, for which a grant under the Local Authorities (Works) Act was approved by his Department and if, in view of the serious flooding which exists in the area, he will take such steps as are necessary to ensure that the work will be carried out immediately.

The selection of works to be executed under the Local Authorities (Works) Act and their submission to the Department forapproval are matters for each local authority concerned. The work referred to by the Deputy has not been submitted to my Department for approval.
