Vol. 147 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Welfare Officer for Post Office Messengers.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state whether he is satisfied that the appointment of a welfare officer to take care of the boy messenger staff of his Department has provided a satisfactory solution for the difficulties experienced in this section of post office activities.

The appointment of the welfare officer was made on the 1st May last. Since then he has been mainly occupied in studying welfare activities and in the reorganisation of the Boy Messenger Institute. I am satisfied that his appointment is fully justified but it is too early as yet to say whether it will provide a satisfactory solution for all our difficulties.
