Vol. 149 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary Forestry Workers.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will grant forestry workers in North Tipperary the same concessions and working hours as are enjoyed by county council employees in the area.

Forestry workers' conditions of employment are and must be uniform throughout the country. It would be impracticable to apply the varying conditions of employment of county council workers to forestry labourers in the different counties. The working hours of forestry labourers compare favourably with those of county council employees in North Tipperary.

Would the Minister not consider making certain conditions, which are general over the whole country where county council employees are concerned, applicable to forestry labourers?

The conditions governing forestry workers are, I think, uniform; it is the conditions of the county councils' workers which vary.

I am well aware that the conditions for forestry labourers are uniform, but I am asking the Minister would he not consider granting some of the facilities which the forestry labourers have asked for and which his Department has been considering since the 23rd October, and about which it has not yet made up its mind?

In County Tipperary?

In County Tipperary and other counties.
