Vol. 150 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Hydro-Electric Schemes.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has yet received a report from the E.S.B. in connection with the proposed hydro-electric scheme in the Cummeragh River, Waterville, County Kerry, and, if so, whether he is now in a position to issue a decision in the matter.

I have not yet received the report referred to. I understand from the board that they have not yet been able to complete the examination to which I referred in reply to a question by the Deputy in Dáil Éireann on 17th February, 1955.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will ascertain from the E.S.B. (a) the present position in regard to the proposed hydro-electric scheme in the Caragh Lake-Glencar districts, County Kerry, and (b) the result of the hydrometric survey of these districts.

The hydro-electric development of the Caragh River is not at present included in the generating plant programme of the E.S.B.

I am, however, informed by the board that the Caragh River is under investigation with a view to possible later development and data are being compiled to enable the long-term average annual flows to be determined.
