Vol. 151 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Haybarn Grants.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that the building of haybarns is being delayed because the appropriate grants are not payable unless the iron used of Irish manufacture, which cannot be obtained at present; that a number of merchants have a quantity of foreign iron in stock; and, if so, if he will allow barns built from foreign iron to qualify for the grant until Irish manufactured iron becomes available.

I am not aware that the building of haybarns is being delayed for the reason stated by the Deputy. If the Deputy gives me particulars of any case of difficulty in procuring supplies of home-produced corrugated galvanised iron, I will have it investigated immediately. I have already allowed erectors of haybarns under the farm buildings scheme to use a portion of their stocks of imported galvanised iron.
