Vol. 153 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old I.R.A. Service Medals.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the reason for the delay in issuing service medals to members of the Old I.R.A. in North Tipperary, many of whom applied a long time ago.

I have, on a number of occasions, referred to the difficulties encountered in connection with the investigation of claims for the service (1917-1921) medal, without bar. These difficulties affect applications from all areas. As I indicated in my reply, on the 16th instant, to a question from Deputy Flynn, I have been examining the matter for a considerable time and I hope to submit proposals to the Dáil at an early date.
