Vol. 154 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Kerry Roads.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that in order to enable turf producers to supply the generating station at Cahirciveen it will be necessary to repair (1) the road from Portmagee county road at Emlaghpoiste to Michael Sullivan's, electoral division of Teeraneragh, (2) the road from Roger Connell's to Killognaveen bogs, electoral division of Baghaghs, and (3) the accommodation road leading to the bogs at Gleesk, Kells; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

As indicated in my reply to the Deputy's question on 13th July, 1955, it is not possible to determine the extent to which financial assistance for the improvement of the bog roads will be necessary until details are available of the locations of the bog holdings from which the station will draw supplies of the 1956 turf crop. I now understand that the Cahirciveen station will not be in commission until the spring of 1957 and it is too early yet to say from what bog areas the supply of turf will be received.
