Vol. 162 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Border Road Traffic.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the tonnage of merchandise and the number of live stock cleared at border "road stations" during the last financial year, and the amount of each carried by vehicles registered in (a) the Twenty-Six Counties, and (b) the Six Counties.

Imports and exports in the last financial year were not brought to account by reference to the port or place of Customs clearance and it would, I regret, be an impracticable task to compile the statistics required from the Customs documents passed for each consignment. Particulars were, however, complied for external trade by port or place of Customs clearance for the year 1954 and I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the principal commodities imported and exported over the land frontier by road in that year.

Following is the statement:—
