Vol. 162 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Credit Policy of Commercial Banks.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will set up a small commission of experts to advise on the steps necessary to ensure that the credit policy of the commercial banks is in conformity with current economic policy.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the necessity for ensuring that the credit policy of the commercial banks is in conformity with current Government economic policy, he will introduce legislation to ensure that governmental policy can be implemented through the medium of Central Bank direction and control.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 4 and 5 together.

I am not satisfied that it is necessary to establish a commission or introduce new legislation in this matter.
