Vol. 162 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter for Social Assistance Classes.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, in view of the heavy loss involved in the export of butter, he will arrange for butter to be made available to old age pensioners, widows, and the unemployed at the price at which it is exported.

The answer is in the negative. The suggestion in the Deputy's question would involve subsidisation of the existing consumption of butter by persons in the categories mentioned and would increase the charges to be borne by the Exchequer.
