Vol. 163 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment and Emergency Schemes.

andMr. Collins asked the Minister for Finance if a decision has been reached with regard to the allocation among the various sub-heads of Vote 10 of the additional £250,000 made available to the Special Employment Schemes Office, and, if so, what proportion is being made available for works in the rural areas.

The full amount of the additional provision of £250,000 has not yet been allocated. It has, however, been decided to make an allocation of £140,000 to urban employment schemes, making a total allocation of £280,000 to that sub-head (F), of which I may say that a sum of £155,000 will be allocated to the Dublin County Borough area, conditional on the corporation contributing £31,000 and putting up suitable work schemes. The amounts will be notified to the various urban authorities at an early date.

As regards the allocation from the sum of £250,000 for works in the rural areas, £10,000 has been allocated to bog development schemes, bringing the total of sub-head I to £125,000. I have not for the present decided upon the allocation of the balance (£100,000) of the additional provision of £250,000 and, consequently, I cannot say what portion of that balance may be devoted to schemes in rural areas.
