Vol. 163 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Control of Itinerants.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to introduce legislation, promised by his predecessor, to control itinerants who are causing great nuisance to householders in various parts of the country at the present time.

The introduction of proposals for legislation to control itinerants would not be my concern. The Local Government (Sanitary Services) Acts contain certain provisions for the control of temporary dwellings and the question of amending these provisions is being examined in accordance with an undertaking given by my predecessor. Such amendment as may be possible would however have only an incidental bearing on the various problems presented by itinerants and would form only part of an Amending Bill dealing with a number of other matters.

Would the Minister indicate when legislation in some shape or form will be introduced to deal with this matter?

I am afraid I could not help the Deputy in that regard.
