Vol. 164 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Television Service.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is in a position to say whether it has yet been decided to introduce a television service, and, if so, what form, whether commercial, sponsored or Government controlled, it will take.

The answer to the first part of the question is, no. The second part does not, therefore, arise.

Is the Minister prepared to allow privately sponsored companies to initiate a television service here?

The position at the moment is that no decision has yet been taken by the Government and, until that decision has been taken, I cannot give the Deputy the information he seeks.

Did the Minister not say that television is a "must"?

Does the Deputy find anything wrong with the statement?
