Vol. 164 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Litigants and Witnesses: Form of Address.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will introduce legislation to provide a standard form of addressing litigants and witnesses in court.

I think we can rely on the courts to see that litigants and witnesses are addressed in a proper and courteous manner and that legislation is not necessary.

Would the Minister consider setting up a school of manners and sending judges and counsel to it so they would know how to address the people and would realise that they are the servants of the people, not their bosses? They are just human beings who got their jobs by political intrigue.

Oh, the cats that are leaping out of the bags now!

The Deputy knows a lot about them.
