Vol. 164 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Public Assistance Footwear Scheme.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he is aware that great hardship is being inflicted on recipients of home assistance by the recent change in the administration of the Public Assistance (Footwear) Regulations, and that footwear for only half the eligible children is being granted; and if he will now issue a direction to local authorities ensuring that, as heretofore, all eligible children between the ages of three years and 16 years will receive the full benefit under the regulations, and also ensuring that no change will be made in the part—payment scheme, and that recipients under this scheme will be treated as in previous years.

I am not aware that there has been any change in the administration of the public assistance footwear scheme and if the Deputy will give me particulars I will have the matter examined.
