Vol. 165 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Undesirable Books.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state what steps he has taken to prevent the sale or circulation of undesirable books, and the number of prosecutions brought in this respect in the last six months.

With regard to the first part of the question, the Censorship Board has been put in a position to function again and I am glad to be able to say that the members of the board are now working together in complete harmony.

As regards the second part of the question, there was one such prosecution which was in relation to a prohibited book.

What does the Minister intend to do to strengthen the powers of the board, seeing that they have failed in the past?

That does not seem to arise on this question.

I do not regard them as having failed at all. In fact they are now working hard and are giving good results.
