Vol. 165 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - American Contract For Frozen Fish.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will give details of the important American contract for frozen fish (haddock), which has been obtained by An Bord Iascaigh Mhara, to which he referred in a speech in Galway on 1st February, 1958.

It is not the practice to publish details of individual commercial contracts of this type.

Having regard to the Minister's speech in Galway on 1st February, in which he referred in detail to the important American contract for frozen fish at Galway, might I ask the Minister whether or not Deputy Briscoe has been responsible for this contract and what correspondence he had with or calls on his Department by Deputy Briscoe or with An Bord Iascaigh Mhara and what rake-off is the Deputy getting out of it?

That is an entirely separate matter. There is nothing about any Deputy in this.

The Deputy is just trying to make a scandal.

Was that question in order?

Leave the Deputy alone. We do not expect the truth from him.

I am entitled to ask questions. As a matter of fact, I have ten down for next Wednesday.

And there will not be a word of truth in one of them.

The Minister is as little concerned with the truth as anybody else.

Matters irrelevant to the question should not be raised and I will not allow them.

There is a lot of cod about fishing.
