Vol. 166 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Illegal Carriage of Goods.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the number of (a) prosecutions and (b) convictions in 1957 for offences under the Road Transport Acts in connection with the illegal carriage of goods.

Figures for 1957 will not be available for some time. I have, however, figures for the preceding two years but they do not distinguish between offences of illegal haulage and other offences against the Road Transport Acts, such as failure to carry a vehicle plate. The figures that I have are:—1955: 451 prosecutions and 315 convictions; 1956: 546 prosecutions and 277 convictions.
