Vol. 166 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Síochána Surgeon.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in order to ensure that future appointments of surgeon to the Garda Síochána will be made by a board competent to assess the respective medical qualifications of the different candidates for the post and not by the Government, he will introduce legislation to amend the Police Forces Amalgamation Act, 1925, to ensure that the post will be filled through the Local Appointments Commission or the Civil Service Commission.

It is not proposed to introduce legislation to amend the Police Forces Amalgamation Act, 1925, as suggested by the Deputy.
