Vol. 167 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Graiguenamanagh Rents.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that rents in Graiguenamanagh, County Kilkenny, are being increased in a most exorbitant manner (one example being an increase from £10 to £78 p.a.); and if he will state whether and, if so, when he proposes to introduce legislation to prevent injustices of this kind.

I am not aware of the particular cases mentioned by the Deputy but if they relate to the rents payable under reversionary leases I should point out that the maximum rent payable under these leases is now governed by the Landlord and Tenant (Reversionary Leases) Act, 1958, which became law as recently as the 19th of last February. Legislation to amend that Act is, therefore, not contemplated.
