Vol. 171 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Import Duty on Newsprint.

asked the Taoiseach whether he has received representations from the Irish Council of the National Union of Journalists for the early abolition of the 5 per cent. import duty on newsprint in order to secure easement for the financial position of national and other newspapers.

The answer is in the negative.

In view of the very close personal and financial interest which the Taoiseach has as controlling director of a chain of national newspapers——

I have no financial interest.

Deputy Doctor Browne is endeavouring to get in a question which I ruled out. I warned the Deputy that there is power in the hands of the Ceann Comhairle to deal with supplementary questions.

I want to ask the Parliamentary Secretary whether he said "yes" or "no" in answer to Question No. 5?

He has now gone dumb on us.

The reply was: "The answer is in the affirmative."

Is the answer "yes" or "no"?

The answer is in the affirmative.

The reply given by the Parliamentary Secretary to No. 5 was "no".

Which one are we on?

Are we to understand that we are to have P.R. for the President and for nobody else?

We have reached Question No. 7.

You are getting very coy over there about your attitude.
