SECTION 3.
Question proposed: "That Section 3 stand part of the Bill."

I should like the Minister to say whether or not I am right in thinking that, apart from the purposes which he said, on the Second Stage, this Bill would serve, no other changes in the generally understood probationary regulations are contemplated?

None whatever. The only provision put in here is that is person may be discharged during his or her probationary period.

That has happened, of course, before now.

It has happened, but the legal position was doubtful. That is the point.

Apart from that, there are no other changes.

Question proposed: "That Section 4 stand part of the Bill."

Would the Minister indicate a little more definitely now when he hopes to bring in the other legislation, as he undertook the last day to father it?

The Bill will certainly appear before the summer recess, but whether or not we shall get it through all stages I should not like to say.

The Minister is quite satisfied this will be the last extension?
