The number of persons in receipt of pensions payable wholly from State funds which were increased under the Pensions (Increase) Act, 1956, of (a) under £50 is 85, (b) over £50 and under £75, 730, and (c) over £75 and under £100 per annum, 227. Comparable figures in respect of each of these categories immediately prior to the passing of the 1956 Act are not readily available, but the total number in receipt of pensions not exceeding £100 per annum payable from State funds who received increases under the Act was 1,565.
