Vol. 177 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Telephone Applications.

18.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the number of telephone applications outstanding in (a) Limerick City and (b) Limerick County; and when such arrears will be cleared.

Apart from 38 telephones which are in course of installation in Limerick city and 50 in Limerick county, there are 45 applications on hand from Limerick city and 24 from Limerick county.

It is estimated that service will be provided for the city waiting applicants within the next three months and for those in the county within about eight months. Many of the applicants will, of course, get service earlier.

Would the Minister do anything to open up installation in regard to the county telephone?

Applicants are waiting in Limerick county. That is spread over 15 different exchanges. Fourteen of these applicants will be given service within the next six months but I am afraid the others will have to wait for almost the expiration of the eight months period.
