Vol. 180 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Meath Estate.

32.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the cause of the delay in dividing the remaining portion of the Langford Estate at Summerhill, County Meath; and if in view of the fact that two very deserving vested cottiers living within the walls of this estate have so far been denied land and that three or four deserving uneconomic holders live within the required distance the Land Commission will have the position reviewed and allot this land to these deserving applicants.

Apart from 249 acres on this estate made available for afforestation purposes, an area of 68 acres has been distributed to date amongst local allottees. An unusually awkward and difficult lay-out in the balance of the estate has impeded the preparation of a scheme of division. Proposals to this end are currently in course of formulation, however, and in this connection the claims of all other eligible local applicants are being fully examined.
