Vol. 182 No. 1

Written Answers. - Offers of land for Forestry in Sligo.

23.

asked the Minister for Lands how many people have offered land to his Department for forestry purposes in County Sligo; the names of people who offered land; and where it is located.

The Forestry Division of my Department is dealing with 106 offers of land for afforestation purposes in Co. Sligo. The total area involved is 6,483 acres. At a recent date, the position in these cases was as follows:

Number of cases

Area (acres)

Agreement to purchase reached, title in course of clearance

7

152

Negotiations for purchase in progress

14

1,524

Negotiations about to be opened

3

161

Inspected or about to be inspected

71

4,345

Cases at preliminary stages of investigation

6,483

In view of the large number of cases involved, it would be impracticable to furnish details of location. It has never been the practice to publish the names of landowners with whom the Forestry Division has land acquisition dealings.
