Vol. 190 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Replacement of Condemned Thatched Houses.

41.

asked the Minister for Local Government if it is proposed to increase the housing grant for the erection of houses to replace thatched houses that are condemned arising out of the survey at present being carried out.

The ascertainment of the nature and extent of unfit housing of this type was one of the primary purposes of the survey in question and I am pressing the housing authorities to expedite its completion. When the results are available to me, I propose to examine the financial problems involved in conjunction with the next review of the level and scope of grants for the erection of houses, which is due to be undertaken in the present year.

I take it that the vagueness of that answer will allow Deputy Calleary to promise increased grants in North Mayo.

Deputy Calleary is well able to do it at any time.

There is nothing vague about the reply. It is perfectly clear and decisive.

It is as clear as the answer to the last question.
