Vol. 192 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Donegal Rivers.

18.

asked the Minister for Finance if any major drainage scheme is envisaged for the following rivers in County Donegal: (a) Lennon, (b) the Finn and (c) the Cloon Burn (Carrigans); and if he will indicate approximately when work will commence.

These rivers have been listed by the Commissioners of Public Works for treatment under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, but I cannot say at present when they can be reached in the drainage programme.

This is even less informative.

Could we not have a more definite answer? There are farmers in Donegal paying £4 per acre. If they offer the same land for conacre, they might not receive more than 30/-. If the Parliamentary Secretary is not prepared to carry out drainage, would he consider devaluation?

That is a separate matter entirely.
