Vol. 194 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bicycle Reflectors.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government if there is any legal standard laid down for the efficiency of reflectors on bicycles; and, if not, if he will ask the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards to produce a suitable standard for such reflectors.

Article 14 (1) of the Lighting of Vehicles Regulations, 1934, which were made under the Road Traffic Act, 1933, prescribes conditions of efficiency with which every red reflector carried on any vehicle, including a bicycle, must comply for the purposes of that Act. These regulations are now being reviewed following enactment of the Road Traffic Act, 1961.
