Vol. 196 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Report on Vital Statistics.

3.

asked the Minister for Health if the quarterly report re vital statistics for the quarter ended 31st December, 1961, which was said to be in the hands of the printers on 28th March, 1962, and publication of which was promised within a couple of weeks thereafter has yet been published; if not, what is the cause of the delay; if the quarterly report for the quarter ended 31st March, 1962, which was to be available in June, is now available; and if he will give the population figures as disclosed in each of the same quarterly reports.

The Quarterly Report on Vital Statistics for the December Quarter, 1961, was published on 13th April last. The Quarterly Report for the March Quarter, 1962, was published on 6th July. It will be noted that the anticipated dates of publication in both instances were fulfilled.

For the purpose of the Quarterly Reports, the population is estimated as in April of each year. As the Census of Population was taken on 9th April, 1961, the figure for the population given in each of the two Quarterly Reports referred to is the figure given in the preliminary report on the Census. This figure was 2,814,703. The figure of the estimated population in April, 1962, will be published in the Quarterly Report for the June Quarter, 1962. This Report will be published towards the end of next September.
