I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the estimated amount required in the year 1945 to purchase the same quantum of goods and services as would £1 in the years specified. The estimates are based on the average of the four quarterly retail price index numbers calculated each year except in the case of 1962 when the estimate is based on the average of the three quarterly index numbers computed to date.
Following is the statement:—
