Vol. 197 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo-Leitrim Road Grants.

53.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will allocate bigger grants for the rolling and tarring of county roads in Sligo-Leitrim Constituency, as many of these roads are in very bad condition owing to the very wet season.

The county road improvement grant has been increased by almost 23 per cent. in the past three years and both Sligo and Leitrim have shared in that increase. In addition, in both those areas in recent years the county road grant has been further supplemented by funds transferred from the main road improvement grants, as permitted under the grant conditions where the dust-free percentage of county roads is less than 50 per cent. Road grants for the present financial year have already been fully allocated. I am not at present in a position to say anything about the scale of grants for 1963-64.
