Vol. 198 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Forestry Lands.

33.

asked the Minister for Lands the area of land acquired in Swinford rural district, County Mayo, for forestry up to 31st November, 1962, and the size and location of the lots acquired; and if work has begun on those lots.

Forestry statistics are not kept on a rural district basis but I can inform the Deputy that in the general vicinity of Swinford a total productive area of 282 acres has been acquired by the Forestry Division of my Department in the townlands of Creggagh, Leckee, Creggaun, Cloonakillina, Callow, Tooromin and Kilgarriff West. Of this area, a total of 150 acres has been planted to date and other areas totalling 62 acres will be planted during the current season. The balance of the lands is held in reserve for future development.
