asked the Minister for Local Government whether a scheme for arbitration has been, or will be, provided for local government officials employed under county managers.

I understand that discussions have been taking place between the City and County Managers' Association and various organisations representing officers of local authorities with a view to the introduction of a scheme of conciliation and arbitration and that a basis for agreement has been reached with some of the organisations concerned.
