Vol. 200 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Services in Western Seaboard Counties.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received copies of resolutions passed by Tralee Urban Council and Killarney Urban Council drawing attention to the difficulties of local authorities in the western seaboard counties in maintaining a standard of services up to the national average without taxing beyond capacity the resources of local taxation, and calling on the Government to provide additional State subsidies to enable these services to be maintained; whether he has considered these resolutions fully; and whether the Government will take any action on the lines suggested in the resolutions.

I have received copies of the resolutions referred to by the Deputy. Investigations are at present being made into the existing system of local taxation and finance and all suggestions for its alteration will be considered in the course of these investigations.
